Having nearly always played a Cleric, I used to spend way too much game time looking up various spells - especially when none of my most used spells fit the situation at hand. Too often, upon finding a spell who's title sounds good, I would find that it was of a sphere I could not even cast! [One of the rules I was unaware of for a long time is the restriction on what spheres are available to the various types of priest a character can be. The 2nd edition AD&D Player Handbook specifically states (p.48, black cover edition): "A cleric has major access to every sphere except the plant, animal, weather, and elemental spheres (he has minor access to the elemental sphere and cannot cast spells of the other three spheres)." (For an explanation of Spheres and major/minor access, please see your friendly PH!)]
About the Cleric SpellbookThe Cleric Spellbook contains all of the spells available to AD&D Priest Cleric Player Character (as given in the Player's Handbook, 2nd edition) in an easy to read, understand, and use format. Each spell listing in the spell book includes the spell name, sphere the spell is from, the range of the spell, the spell duration, the spell's area of effect, the V/S/M components involved in casting the spell, the cast time, the saving throw information (None, Neg. Half, etc.), and the materials needed (if any) for casting the spell, along with a brief description of the spell, including any hit point, armor class, etc effects. |

What's NewI've added some color coding (which I can't seem to get IE to print, though Netscape does), and am waiting for input from others on what y'all would like to see added (if anything). |
Using The Cleric Spell Book
The spellbook contains a great many abbreviations. Here, I will attempt an explanation of the abbreviations I've used:

Printing The Cleric Spell BookFor printing purposes, I suggest removing all headers (page number, url, filename, etc), then setting your top, left, right, and bottom margins for the smallest number your printer will allow (mine is: Top-0.25, Left-0.25, Right-0.25, Bottom-0.53). This will help ensure that each page fits on a single printed page. It also seems that Netscape does an overall better job of printing the spellbook, since it 1) Prints the color-coding, and 2) doesn't break the table halfway through a cell. I haven't tried any other browsers, but would love input from all you AOL, webTV, and Opera users out there! |
